Barrel / Saggar Firing
David Snape
We are planning to run another barrel firing workshop this year.
You can make and biscuit fire your own pots and bring them along. Details of how the pots should be constructed will be supplied.
Alternatively, there will be a small number of ready-made pots that can be purchased for the workshop at cost (£5-£8 approx.).
The workshop is necessarily split over a couple of weeks. We will meet on the weekend of the 25th July to imprison our pots in their clay or aluminium foil jackets, (‘saggars ‘), together with mixtures of combustibles and oxides, and let them dry for one or two weeks.
Then on Saturday 8th August we will lay them in our barrel, build a fire around them, and let the saggars fire overnight. On the Sunday 9th August we will come in and rescue our pots, clean them, and give them a seal and a polish.
Costs are yet to be decided and depends on the number of attendees but will probably be around £20 – £30.
Numbers are limited (due to the size of the barrel) and priority will be given to members who have not attended a RAG Barrel Firing session before.
